Be the change you wish to see in the world -Gandhi

Jeremiah 29:11

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." - Jeremiah 29:11
I love this Bible verse because it reminds me that I do not have all the answers at the moment, but God is watching out for me. This verse give me comfort when the future looks overwhelming. I know that there are bigger plans for me, and I'm excited to find out what they might be.

Zephaniah 3:17

"The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take delight in you, he will quiet you with His love, he will rejoice over you with singing." -Zephaniah 3:17
This verse really comforts me when I feel down, or anytime I need reassurance of God's love. To think that He would rejoice over me with singing humbles me greatly. God, who is deserving of all praise,  thinks that I, and everyone else for that matter, is important enough to rejoice and sing about. We are all immensely important to God, which means that we should view others as valuable too.

Psalm 32:8

"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye." -Psalm 32:8
This verse has helped me immensely, especially in recent years. It can be very difficult trying to figure out what to do with your life. I have gone from thinking that I am called into ordained ministry, to thinking that chemistry might be the way to go, to jumping back to ministry or joining an international aid organization. The one thing that make it all easier is to know that God has a plan for me and is guiding me along the best pathway for my life.

Dom Helder Camara

"When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist." -Dom Helder Camara
This is something that one has to really think about. Most people would agree that it is good to help those in need, but fewer people are willing to ask why they are in need. I want to try to understand the answer to this taboo question and work towards addressing it. I want to help those in need, but it would be amazing if at some point there were no reason to help anymore because the problems have been solved.

Noam Chomsky

"States are not moral agents, people are, and can impose moral standards on powerful institutions." -Noam Chomsky
This is a really powerful quote because states are made up of people, but left to their own devices, states will not be moral. It is our duty to help ensure that morality is not forgotten in the government.

Dad

"Never eat bread in the dark." -Dad
This should go without saying; one should simply never eat bread in the dark. What if it had mold on it? :-)

John A Shedd

"A ship is safe in harbor-- but that's not what ships are for." -John A. Shedd
I think that this quote really hits home with me because I often want to stick with what I am comfortable with, but I know that the only way I will be able to achieve all that I dream of is to leave the comforts of home and go out in the world. It would be amazing to be able to live in my home town with my family all of my life, but I want to reach out to people across the globe in a very direct way. I suppose that I need to realize that I should leave the harbor but not forget that the harbor will always be waiting for me when I get back.

Nelson Mandela

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." -Nelson Mandela
This quote simply rings true. Education is absolutely necessary to bring any sort of change in the world for a number of reasons. In the United States, without education people would have no idea of the atrocities that occur in our world every day. In many areas, these atrocities are lived, but here, we have to be taught about them. In every country, education is key because it gives the people a means of communicating through writing and speaking with well-supported arguments. You have to know your stuff so that others will listen to you. Education is key in confronting the problems in the world and bringing about reform.

Me

"Don't ask. I don't know." -Dione Miller
I often say completely random, and often hilarious, things for no particular reason. When my roommate looks at me to inquire why or what I just said, I simply reply "Don't ask. I don't know" because this is often really the case.
